Play FreeCell Online
FreeCell Solitaire builds on the classic card game with added options and helpful tools. The objective is to move all face-up cards to the foundation piles, arranging them from Ace to King by suit.To support your strategy, four free cells are available in the top left corner. These allow you to temporarily store cards and reorganize the tableau more effectively.
If you get stuck, you can use the hint feature to guide your next move. A shuffle option is also available to rearrange a stack when needed. You can undo moves at any time to correct mistakes or try a different approach.Additional power-ups give you more control, including the ability to move a card to a better position when you're in a tight situation.
How to Play FreeCell Solitaire
Use your mouse or touch controls to select and move cards across the tableau, free cells, and foundation piles.
FreeCell Rules
The Piles
FreeCell uses three main types of piles:
- Free Cells – Four slots in the top left that hold one card each
- Foundations – Four piles in the top right where cards are completed
- Tableau – Eight columns where the main gameplay happens
Setup
The tableau is divided into 8 columns:
- Columns 1–4 – 7 cards each
- Columns 5–8 – 6 cards each
All cards are face-up from the start, while the Free Cells and Foundations begin empty.
Objective
The goal is to move all cards to the foundation piles. Each foundation must be built by suit in order:
Ace → 2 → 3 → ... → King
Allowed Moves
- Move cards between tableau columns
You can place a card onto another if it is one rank lower and of the opposite color (e.g., red 6 on black 7).
If cards are already in sequence (alternating colors, descending order), you can move them together. The number of cards you can move depends on available space:
- Empty Free Cells + Empty Columns + 1 = Max cards you can move
- Use empty columns
If a tableau column is empty, you can move any available card there. - Move cards to Free Cells
You can place any single available card into a free cell. Each cell holds only one card. - Move cards from Free Cells
Cards from free cells can be moved: - To the foundation – If they follow suit and order
- To the tableau – If they are one rank lower and opposite in color
- Move cards to Foundations
Cards can be moved to the foundation piles in ascending order by suit. In many cases, they can be sent automatically once playable.
- Undo moves
You can undo moves as many times as needed. However, each undo may count toward your total moves, which matters if you're trying to minimize your score.
Time and Moves
The game tracks both your total moves and completion time. This allows you to improve your performance and aim for better results in future runs.
